Club Meeting 1172 June 2008, Graham MMG TC Owners Club Newsletter Meeting 1171- 26th June, 2008 (Produced by Graham Mackie) Meeting 1172, held at College Park in Nedlands got off to a late start with a few finding some navigational issues to deal with it seemed. Nevertheless a good turnout on the coldest day in the last two years and drizzle to boot. Hosts were Colin B. and Clive B-B. Pleasingly we had our long distance members from Mandurah, Yunderup and Northam and not forgetting the Club's celebrated MG million miles traveller, President John B. all the way from Waroona. Mike S. reportedly left the Aldous residence a half hour before Graham A. but arrived significantly later and it was the same suburb????? Justin wasn't with him was a suggested excuse. Apologies came too thick and fast to catch them all but I heard Tony C., Wally B., Andrew R., Graham R., Graham B., Noelene D., Ivan M., Morris P. and Derek S. Minutes of 1171 mentioned Noelene's 100th meeting and also a request for Port Label suggestions. Matters Arising. Annual Inspection saw a 40% turnout on a not wonderful day. Lots of excuses were put aside, given that Pres JB came open roofed all the way from Waroona. If you weren't there – tough was the sentiment of Colin and you may need to try full licence arrangements. Great BBQ . Col B. thanked Chris B. for his help and a vote of thanks to Noelene as well. Harry P. spoke of Veteran Car Club arrangements with a $100 fee if you don't turn up on the set date. Col declared it's 'all over' and ticked and unticked form has now been forwarded to the Department. Sashes. Darryl advised that Theo will take back any with errors and correct same 500 meeting plaque was given to Barry P. who boasted he could still read the reduced sized version. Club Car Birthdays 6th July,'48 TC 5950 Robin Braham 15th July '48 TC 6065 Ted Stokes 16th July '54 TF 6457 Andrew Rostron Correspondence Quiz Night Invitation - 4th July – participants sought – seemed a possibility. Eight needed for a team Shannon's. A nice letter but essentially saying there will not be a Festival of Motoring this year. Colin Dines. Colin (absent) provided the President with a letter asking it to be read, giving his views on the topic of Club funds being used to subsidise drinks at the Annual Dinner and criiticising Graham M. who had expressed a different view at the previous meeting. Graham continues to question this as a proper use of Club funds, preferring a more value lasting and daily used offering (if any is required at all), other than alcoholic beverages lasting half an hour at most. He said he would however let the criticism 'go thru to the keeper'. Swap Meet -Sunday – attendees qualify for a point and might find what they are looking for. Ken S-R. Asked if he could bring a friend to the Swapmeet. Approved – he has been before it was thought. 'Lucas Smoke Kit' Darryl offered information on an advert from e Bay at a reasonable price. Port Bottling Weekend (12th/13th July) Brian W. is collecting keg. Corks OK. Bottles OK. Likely attendees asked to show hands so beds adequate and catering for the Saturday night dinner (provided free by hosts) will be sufficient .The rest of the weekend is BYO plus heaps of fun with motokhana on the grass and scenic runs around the district on MG friendly roads. Saturday travellers can meet at 'The Lakes' turnoff at 9am to form a convoy. You are welcome Friday as well if that suits. Maps of a better route, bypassing Northam given out. Website. Neville explained that a glitch is preventing photos being added . Original programmer not contactable. He is to discuss with Ray from the MG Car Club to see if problem can be solved. To change to 'whizbang' site could cost from $300 to $1000 dollars. Silence followed. At least the important newsletter is getting on – yippee... all being fully informed of Club happenings. General Business. Steering Wheels . John L. received advice from John Kimble of the UK that Rim & Spoke smaller wheels are now available at 130 pounds. John has already emailed contact details to all members . Vic Longdon is looking for floorboard kit for his TD. Location of same discussed. John Davis mentioned as a possibility. TC for sale. Harry asked if anyone knew who owns the TC being advertised. Suggestion is it is a mobile number and possibly from the Eastern States Steering parts. Phil Wells is looking for help with parts . Mentioned also a story of a little old lady from the Wanneroo area that reportedly has owned a TC from new.!!?? Manifold. Mike S. displayed a bright and shiny claret coloured manifold he is providing to Graham B. for his car. Envy all round.. Yearly Calendars offered once more Bob McQueen. Bob returned home today and Mike S. will deliver with our best wishes. Ron 'Y Type' M. apologised for the next two meetings. Graham R. is now home after 3 weeks in hospital and has a new pacemaker. The first one was 'made by Lucas' claimed Pres. JB. Old Farts Lunches Mary Ann spoke of a Fremantle book restorer Doug Firth who operates as Biblio Folio and asked if we might like to meet with him in conjunction with an OFL. It was accepted as a great idea but not for the next OFL which will be at Carillery Winery in the Swan Valley on 7th July Club Films. Col Bonney has been enquiring about grants to transfer film to DVD. He needs quotes for the suitcase full of films so he can follow up. Darryl met Stan Jeffries at Malaga Markets who will quote. Barry P. offered to take it on. Accepted with grateful thanks. It will be held at the RPYC Annexe and Kevin McM will deal with the formalities of access. The meeting finished at 10.30 to the sound of the lifting of the kitchen shutters and a display of mouth watering morsels. Thanks fellers Next Meeting 1173 will be the Port Bottling weekend hosted by Bert and Angie Hayes at the 'Nut Farm' - Grass Valley, Northam on Saturday 12th July. NB. There will NOT be a meeting on Thursday 10th July. Entertaining at Home Do not allow the dog to eat at the table… no matter how good his manners are and even if he has a flea collar. General Never take a beer to a job interview. It is considered tacky taking an esky to Church. If you have to vacuum the bed, it’s time to change the sheets. Dining Out When pouring wine, make sure you tilt the paper cup and pour slowly so as not to ‘bruise’ the fruit of the wine. If drinking directly from the bottle, always hold it with your fingers covering the label. Return to Tech Talk |
