Club Meeting 1164 Mar 2008, Graham M

MG TC Owners Club Newsletter

 from Meetings 1164 - 6th March, 2008

(Produced by Graham Mackie).

Graham and Bobbie R. hosted some 42 members at meeting 1164 in their Maida Vale retreat on a warm, windless, soft patchy rain night. It was as usual a friendly atmosphere with our newly joined members Clive C. and  Kevin W., plus a welcome to Bruce Edgar after an extended absence. With a six car garage/workshop complete with pit on show, there were many envious faces.

Apologies noted  were Tony C, Noelene D. (in Vancouver), Wally, Nev & Steve P.

Car Birthdays. None – must have been a strike in the factory????

Concours @ Crawley Bay went well. The usual winners stayed home it was said.

Visitor Jerry Latham from Melbourne was co-opted as a judge and he had a great day 43 members and wives picnicked under the shady trees and the judging was all over in an hour.              Results were as follows

Affiliates      Rob G. 98.1, Mike B. 88.2, Doug S. 85.3, Ivan N. 84.55.

TC's           Derek S. 83.25, Paul G. 79.6, Patrick R. 79.55, Mike S. 79.4,  Martin F. 70, Steve P. 68.8, Chris B. 56.9, John B. 53.2, Noeleen D. 48.9.

Congratulations and thanks were extended to all organisers, participants, judges and Clive BB. Mike S. suggested that it was time to bring all entrants up to speed on what judges are looking for and standard judging formalities – hoods up, side-screens, tools etc. This is to be arranged before next year's event.

Dardanup was attended by Tony C., Vern S., Darryl R.,(in a TF) Ken & Mary Ann and thousands of others – a most impressive day and the Trad band played all day . A great time had by all. Tractors, heritage, timber,  machinery all added to the day and it is hoped that more will take the opportunity next year. Mary Ann and Pres JB said each made impressive speeches.

Jaguar Clubroom Meeting Hire. There is still some discussion going on it seems.

Old Fart's Lunch . Spinnaker's at Hillary's saw 18 matured old fart's enjoying trying to eat through heaps of squid rings (calamari for the educated gourmet members of our club like me).    The one liner of the night goes to the person that suggested “you should never eat squid rings at a Jewish BBQ “

Next Old Fart's Lunch. Wally suggested that it be a free Charter Yacht trip to Rottnest with owner Ernie Little. The boat is however restricted to twelve participants. This was discussed and it was resolved that this was not agreeable to the majority of Old Fart's. Wally is to either arrange another venue or pass on to West R. It was suggested that the boat trip be arranged for another date. Mike to speak to Wally.

Correspondence.

Safety Fast Run. Terry Banton of the MG Car Club advising that the 2008 Run  is to be held 25/26 October. It will be normal arrangements but with variations for older cars.. Entries now being accepted and there is an early bird prize (free entry) for one quick entrant. The committee is said to be enthusiastic but welcomes volunteer representatives from the other clubs.

Mike S. UK trip starts with a departure 20March. He has been invited to speak about the TC by the MG Car Club. They want to hear about restoration and also the culture of the TC Owners Club. With help from his family, he has had a DVD made of early Club events including Caversham, Mooliabeenie, the Broken Bridge Hillclimb, a Mike & Loretta segment and the Partridges. The DVD was played.

Darryl suggested Mike take copies of the Compendium and Graham suggested the 1995 Fremantle event involving many Club members.

Joke

Guy goes into a pub and he's got an MG steering wheel sticking out of the fly of his trousers.

The barman says 'You've got a steering wheel sticking out of your fly'

The guy looks and replies ' Yes, and it's driving me nuts - all over the place – hasn't had the JB conversion yet'

Profound Statements

Monogamy leaves a lot to be desired.

There are three categories of men – the handsome, thje caring and the majority
