MG TC Owners Club Newsletter

 from Meetings 1161 - 24th January , 2008

(Prepared by Graham Mackie)

Meeting 1161,  held on the patio of Chris  & Judy digs, was a well attended affair with 35 upwards attendees. Parking attendants at the gate,at a big boys and little boys garage !!??   Ducati, Velocette, go karts big and small, bikes, trikes,  unicycle, scooters and oh yes a few MG''s and other miscellaneous pieces. prizes, citations and machines and tools galore  – a glory box for a bride with a leather jacket. The MG poster for Drum smokes is a classic too.

I got lost again - aerrived late so didn't note any offered apologies or early news.

Visitors. Charles Colvin is looking across the nation for a TC, but might just show some wisdom and consider a TD. Has looked at cars in Mackay (Qld.) and Deniliquin (NSW) and the Brian Copley collection at Middle Swan. He was directed to the Barron Bicton stable with two TC's as well as a beautiful Yunderup TD. Has a file of info to compare offerings.

Kevin Wakeford was given a TF last Easter by his son and is getting it up to licence stage, hopefully in a month's time. It was bought from a chap in White Gum Valley. It's a reddy colour – not on the register but will be...

Change of Ownership.  John H and Paul G. were both congratulated for negotiating and concluding a deal whereby Paul takes over paying the bills and having fun in the TC. John is happy the car stays in the Club and also happy to be able to remain a member of the Club, a sentiment that was not lost on those at the meeting, reinforced with hearty applause all round.

He thanked those that emailed concerns he was selling – both of them....

Next Old Farts Lunch. It will be at the Vernon Arms Tavern on the Old Mandurah Road, Rockingham on 4th February. John H. (host) wants lots of TC's, because the owner likes to look at them and they no doubt help attracting customers if parked outside.

Old Fart's Beer and others available.

All British Day - 9 February at Donnybrook Amphitheatre. JB told them we might have 5 or 10 arrive and link up with Vern and Suzanne o'night.

Twilight Tour Col. B. suggested a meal at Poppy's – North Perth, then a 'squirt' down the coast to do some Go – Karting. Also suggested it be transferred to the Saturday. Check with Col re times & dates if interested.

Goncours. (24 February) Noeleen has booked Crawley Bay – cost is a bit better than last year. 9am till 5 pm. Only MG's allowed inside the gate.

Correspondence.

Col D. wrote and read to the assembled group a glowing reference to Royal Pert Yacht Club on our delightful  dealings and the meals and service we have received since we started going there for our Annual Dinners in 2001. I missed a few good humour that related but Jack G. was tickled pink

Special Business.

Morris Pav. And Maryann spoke of an Early Morning Run on the Australia Day holiday. Start is at the Casino Carpark near the bridge , starting 7.15 for 7.30am and then enjoying a breakfast at Fairbossen Eineyard 8.30 – 8.45am, located at the east end of Welshpool. After b'fast there will be a drivepast of Arthur Collett's home . He is a legend in WA and celebrates his 95th birthdat as the drive- past takes place. May go around twice..

Ralph K. didn't have a happy trip home last meeting Block and Sump need s replacement plus other damage . Condolences Ralphy.  Harry P. offered a block

Trophy Upgrade. The old and the new of the framed photo award was displayed and met with approval all round. New plaques added. This is the second upgraded trophy as I recollect

Family home Carine.

 Men Do Remember Anniversaries

A woman awakes during the night to find that her husband is not in
bed.
She puts on her robe and goes downstairs to look for him.
She finds him sitting at the table with a hot cup of coffee in
front of him.
He appears to be in deep thought, just staring at the wall.

She watches as he wiped a tear from his eye and takes a sip of his
coffee.
"What's the matter, dear?" she whispers as she steps into the
room.
"Why are you down here at this time of night?"
The husband looks up from his coffee,"Do you remember 20 years ago
when we were dating, and you were only 16?"he asked solemnly.
The wife touched to tears thinking that her husband is so caring
and sensitive.  "Yes, I do" she replies.
The husband paused. The words were not coming easily. "Do you
remember when your father caught us in the back seat of my MGY?"
"Yes, I remember" said the wife, lowering herself into a chair
beside him.
The husband continued. "Do you remember when he shoved the shotgun
in  my face and said, "Either marry my daughter, or I will send you to
jail for 20 years?"
"I remember that too" she replied softly.
He wiped another tear from his cheek and said, " I would have
gotten out today."
