Club Meeting 1147 June 07, Graham M

MGTC Owners Club Newsletter

 Meeting 1147 - 28th June, 2007

(Produced by Graham Mackie)

The new 'dressed in green' executive team arrived nice and early for their first 2007/2008 meeting hosted by Mike B. The meeting was held in the prestigeous Jaguar Car Club Clubrooms in Osborne Park and the 'green team' blended nicely into the green painted rear wall. There was a near record attendance of over 50 members, wives and visitors.

Visitors were Bruce Ashton and Phil Wells.  Bruce was a very early, if not founding member of the Club and held the position of President from 1964/65 through to 1967/68. He led the Club well in its formative years and added prestige to the Club with numerous individual wins  in the CAMS State Gymkhana Championships in 1966 and 1967 and helped the Club to  big wins as well with his points tallies.

This is his first return since moving to Victoria in 1968 and he drove across with his 'muso' son in a Magna  which he said 'boom boxed' heavy metal music most of the way. This led to some lighter metal pieces vibrating off the car during the trip. He claimed that early TC'ers 'drank too much and drove too fast' in the early days but was pleased that so many survived including Kevin McM., Graham A., Mike S., Colin D., and Darryl R. He still has the TC back in Brighton but it's currently unlicenced.

Phil on the other hand is a local and has become the owner of an ex Ed Farrar TC.

Car Birthday. Robin Braham's TC 5950 has a birthday on 6th July.

Kevin McM will have owned his TC for 50 years . Kevin was Club President in 1962/63 and again in 1989/90.

Minutes from Meeting 1146 were adopted and Pres. was pleased there were 'no dissenters'.

Matters Arising .

The Diamond Anniversary 'Y Type' Picnic Run on 24th June was the topic of a deservedly comprehensive, descriptive and amusing report by Ron. There were 5 'Y' Types, 2 TC's, a TD, TF, B plus a VW and a Mazda totalling 13. A brief stop at Rushton Park when decisions were made by some to remain topless???. Ron's attitude was 'I'm alright Jack'.

A 1pm arrival at Churchman's Brook saw a rush to WC's. (Not TC'S  -but Mike's car was alegedly racing)  The Lambie's arrived late in their TF but in time to share in a birthday cake made by Lynette, decorated with anniversary info and badge. Barbara supplied the 60 candles and young Justin , dressed in red overalls blew out the candles. Ron was disappointed to have noted a hexagon, not octagon roof on the shelter shed. The 'Y' Type motto shared by Ron is 'independently unique' ie, independent front suspension and a slightly 'different type' of MG owner.

Ron hopes two runs per year can be built into the calendar.

The Club are delighted with the run and applauded Ron and Mike B of the 'Y'Type register.

Peking to Paris has moved from Poland to Germany. Harry Hickling's MG SA is in 31st position and a TC owner driving a Riley is 27th overall. Hope I got this right Harry.

Concessional Licence Inspection. Colin indicated there were 66 cars on the register and 50 turned up or made alternative arrangements. Return going in shortly. A full carpark – the rain washed all oil away. BBQ went well – finished after dark. A vote of thanks was proposed by Colin B. to Colin B.for the committment and hospitality.

Steering Boxes.  Members urged to continue to look for Datsun 1200 steering boxes. JB will purchase any found.
