(Darryl put in first bid, asking if she would take a trade-in).Seems it has had a colourful racing history including a time when an 8 year old Graham A was left in charge of it whilst his Dad and Max went to wash down the dust after racing. Graham was responsible for letting off the handbrake and allowing it to run down a hill. First owner was MG Vice President bitten by his own TC. The story of the night was the fight between a pianola and an MGTC owned by Vice Pres. JB. It seems JB took payment in the form of a pianola for work recently done. The pianola was duly delivered and taken off a trailer with extreme difficulty by four beefy blokes and moved into the garage. The TC had been previously taken out to allow this to happen. Despite an offer to assist in replacing the TC into the garage our experienced VP was certain it could be controlled and proceeded to run it down the hill into the garage with no one at the wheel. As it moved down the hill, it decided to take on a life of its own and move faster and faster and summoning all his strength, he found he urgently needed a wedge under a wheel and what could be more convenient than a right foot. Well the foot wasn't enough and trying to extract himself from the path of the moving TC was impossible with one foot jammed. Fearing worse treatment he tried to escape but the pointy end of the TC front mudguard decided to take a bite at the VP for all the nasty things that had been inflicted over the years. In a fit of jealousy over the garage intruder, it threw him aside and headed for the new pianola where some mild damage was inflicted as well . We were delighted that JB was able to limp along but the level of trust with the TC has significantly diminished. More Exciting News TC (red) advertised for $42K on weekend. Is thought to be an Applecross car. SA for sale in the eastern states by Goodman's Auction Also a PB in Y Type 'offer for free'. Graham M's email to all members asking for expressions of interest, resulted in three responses. Brian W. was successful and is to rebuild for Marija. He collects it this weekend. It is fully apart and will take time, but $6000 spent on body work previously.. Darryl R. also has a Y Type for sale. I think it is a serious offer to a good home. Annual Dinner at RPYC .colin d. asked for confirmation that we Buffet menu is the decision. Trophy rebuild by Rob G. is progressing. Rob also advised that he has arranged printing of decals for Oil Filters for TD and TF's. Available for $7 each from Rob for the originality crew. Mike S. advised that Su Tuck the gorgeous model in almost all of the pre-war MG adverts (striped dress) died recently at age 94. She was the wife of George Tuck and daughter of George Propert the floor manager on most assembly line photos. Mike also has a calendar of John L. has access to a mysterious photo of bodies (MGF that is) stored in the old MG factory. New Member. Mike S. nominated Hamish for membership. The nomination was confirmed by acclamation. Hamish explained that the car is currently having its wheels respoked. Col. B. crawled under a Leyland Atlantian double- decker bus to find outsize lever arm shockies. Despite previous outstanding performance on MG's he failed it. Darryl R. asked for clarification re earlier discussion on concours entrants and this was debated at length with words by Rob G, Mike S. and Pres. Next Meeting (1141) at the home of David and Michelle R. on 5 April, 2007. Humour One new arrival in town to another. ‘I’ve heard so much about you! Now I’d like to hear your side of the story’. Old age is like everything else. To make a success of it, you have to start young. If we knew we were going to live so long, we would have taken better care of ourselves. Grandfather had a farm, fathers had a garden, grandsons have a can opener. Marriage is the alliance of two people. One who never remembers birthdays and one who never forgets! Sign in a barber’s shop window: ‘Hair cuts while you wait” Overheard at a recent meeting ‘What’s the secret of your long marriage?’ Keeping it romantic’ was the reply. ‘Once a week my wife and I go out for a romantic dinner. I like Italian, but I don’t know where she goes.’ Return to Tech Talk |
