 Meeting 1192 - 16th April, 2009

(Produced by Graham Mackie)

Rob's  Garage was evacuated to seat the 40 +members, wives and visitor on a balmy night in Applecross/Canning Bridge.  TF's were a dominant feature – one award winner in better than showroom finish, another under restoration beneath a car cover and another in parts on shelves and ceiling. The 1909 Renault was looking magnificent (but lonely) tucked away in the corner. Tools displayed on the Pres's table created some interest and the incredible array of plastic holders of nuts, bolts and other bits, all labelled and organised was most impressive. Apart from that, the lawns were a showpiece and sprinklers were not going off drowning  TC's or other cars.

Apologies heard were Graham R., Darryl R., Graham A., Barry P., Doug S., Tony C.

Visitor Frank Mountford had been conversing with Treasurer Col. and found his way to the meeting. Started work as an Apprentice Mechanic in Kent, UK in 1955, on MG'S and other British makes. Moved to Oz in 1974 and operated Service Stations until commencing a Tours and Charters Bus Company until 2 years ago. He bought a Y Type 5 years ago , and is half way through a restoration. Motor finished, car half painted. Came on a Y Type Run and is keen to join and take part in our club. Frank was given a warm welcome by all and is likely to go on the Y Type Run next Sunday. Told by Pres JB that Y Typer's were great chaps but needed thicker skins & most did.

The Minutes of Mtg 1191 mentioned Mike S. was in the chair while Pres JB. was actively recumbent in his three wheeler 'Bowles Bike' in the South West Tour. (We were later to hear about a 70 clicks downhill caper passing all in the way and a desire to repeat the performance in 2010.) It was said the bike needs a new engine?????

Matters Arising.

Northam Flying 50  was reported as a great day for Graham A., Ivan M. and Lou S., but a disaster for Mike S. who suffered from oil being sprayed in his face (from his own car) after four successful runs. The car is now in the 'naughty corner' of the garage until Mike gets over the sulks and disappointment. Booth and Guy attended and many from the MG Car Club – a huge crowd but fewer cars. No bingles. One strange MG badged car – mostly Singer. Ken S-R didn't race but officiated

Y Type Run on Sunday 19th starts 8.45am for 9.30 getaway from Tomato Lake on a predicted lovely 28degree day says Ron M.  Refreshments at Wundowie and you can keep going to York for lunch or turn for home. Ring Ron M . on 93813120 if more details required. Looked like 8 starters. Mike S. has 3 spare seats in his Y. Bill W., to be invited by JB.

Website and Forum. You can get into Forum thru a link from our website. 18 members registered already. Richard P. will bring laptop to next meeting and demonstrate.

Trophy Night menu confirmed as $54.50 . Other costs being added are $300 setup, $300 hire for screen etc.  Discussion seemed to decide to give the video a miss this time  as most filming has been seen many times  half in black & white  and half with backs the other way, see nought anyway. Club to pay for pre-dinner drinks for convenience as in past years. Cost likely to be $60 or $65pp. List for starters sent around by Colin

Trophies to be returned urgently  to allow time for engraving -prompted by Darryl

Correspondence Nil except for magazines

Concessional Licence request by Morris Pav. for daughters wedding 26th April approved.

National Rally in Geelong was attended one day by Rob G. He suggested that the concours standard/restorations appeared to have dropped by comparison with our club. 250 to 300 cars  mostly later models. Harry P. thought the idea of alternate years of an MG Rally and a pre-war (pre – '56?) gathering was gaining acceptance.  CAMS rules on seat belts and other issues has been decimating attendances. More Observation Runs likely to save costs.  Waiting on outcome of delegates meeting to see attitudes. There were 3 National Rallies in Perth over Easter. Rileys, Austin Healeys and Austins.

Healey Rally '09 was based at The Oasis in the Swan Valley . Fifty locals and eighty from interstate registered. Nine came in convoy from South Australia. Displayed at Fremantle and Kings Park.

Subscriptions. Treasurer Colin remarked that several Concessionally licensed members still owed subs. And needed to see him if in doubt.

Advance Apologies. Harry & Deidre away till June. Gary G. will miss AGM and Dinner.

Old Farts Lunch at Zamia's was attended by 6 members. Good tucker – good fun.

Sybil Lupp's TC. Wes R.  emailed details of a 104mph TC from New Zealand

Hints for Old Farts

You know you’re old when you look at the menu and not the waitress.

The secret of longevity is breathing.

You know you’re old when you have a dicky heart,

 not the other way round.

You’ve reached middle age when all you exercise is caution.

Middle age is when your age starts to show around the middle
