Comment:Hi, my name is Joe Cowdry and I've owned TC 9296 XPAG 9977 for 41 years. I just finished reading Mike Sherrell's TCs Forever and I will be starting my 4th and last rebuild (for me) of my car in January. I would like to know:
1. if John Bowles is still making the steering box conversion kits and where I can purchase one?

2. if anyone has a Lucas SFT 462 foglamp that would like to sell or trade for the FT 27 foglamp that I currently have?

I originally bought the car in Cambridge, England in 1964 when I was stationed there in the USAF. I shipped it back to the states where is has travelled with me to various locations. I am currently residing in Massachusetts.

Thanks, in advance, for any information you can provide. Joe

If all early engines were finished in bulkhead grey, why do all the factory photos show them in a different (darker) colour?

Comment:I am the current owner of TC3594. The car was exported to the USA in 1974, and had two owners, both, I believe in Florida. One was a Kalil Glenn, 1349 Hampstead Terrace, Ovoiedo, Florida, (who has not responded to letters)and the other is unknown. The vehicle was re-imported into UK in 1993 – thereafter I have history. If anyone out there has some information on owners prior to 1993, I'd be delighted to know. Terry Locke. Sussex, England.

Comment:This is a great website! I have enjoyed browsing in it. Mike Sherrell told me about it. I'm in S.A. but half feel that I belong in W.A. due to the existance of the T.C. Owners' Club there and my love of T.Cs. My T.Cs are going well although the "Race" car suffered a minor inlet valve seat (Laystall head) problem at the last Mallala sprint. The head had not been off for 10 years so it was due for a bit of TLC I guess. Keep up the good work! Yours oTCagonally, Bob Schapel

Comment:In November 1964 the registration on my TC expired.I thought I would give it a general tidy up and change it from black to very dark BRG.It went up on blocks,I started the strip back for the repaint and there it still sits but in a new and better equipped garage 41 years later. Some wood at the rear behind the petrol tank was replaced in 1964 but the rest of the body is reasonably tight and even Mike Sherrell would be happy with the way the doors, scuttle top and bonnet line up still. THE BIG QUESTION-do I pull the whole car apart for a full restoration or refurbish what is still an original, reasonably unmolested car, start driving it again in the shorter term and fix and improve things as I go along?
I would also like to find the previous history of my car TC4252 XPAG 4913.I purchased it from Bill Weigall in Bellevue Hill, Sydney.
Would love to hear from every one out there who wants to help a "lapsed" TC owner back into the fray.

Comment:I would like to contact Mike with a question regarding the early & late seat squabs. I am restoring TC 6643 which has an early model seat back. Does this mean that the seat sits higher in the car, above the DOG-LEG, as the plywood backing is exactly the same as for the later model seat as in my other TC 9453.
Thanks in advance

Subject:Re: Scuttle & Engine Colour
Email:Richard.Prior@akzonobel.com.au
Comment:Copy of response to Brian Murphy,
I don't know whether you got a response to your query but if so here is another. I helped Mike identify these colours so I have some knowledge here. If you look at page 63 in Mike's book it identifies the colours by BS (British Standard) colour numbers. Yours being an earlier car, pre 5562 should have the deep flutes in the scuttle (Page 51 & 69) therefore will be Light Aircraft Grey. In local language this colour is identical to Australian Standard AS2700 - N35 Light Grey. It is possible but not likely, because we have only seen one example in Australia, that it could be the greeny grey the Yanks talk of. This colour is AS2700 - N32 French Grey.

Also if your car should have a grey scuttle not body colour because of the earlier chassis number then it should have a Dark Grey Engine not a red one!!!! See page 61 & 66. BS 381c - 638 Dark Sea Grey is also AS2700 - N54 Dark Sea Grey. Any major paint manufacturer in Melbourne will have no difficulty in identifying these colours. I use ordinary spraying enamel on engines (International Interlac 649) and Two Pack Polyurethane on the Scuttle (International Interthane 990). Unfortunately we only supply these in 4 or 5 Lt kits which is way too much unless you share with someone. Our Yacht & Boat sales people can help you with similar products in smaller kits. If you prefer Acrylic Lacquer for the Scuttle try our Auto guys at Sunshine.

Hope this helps

Comment:Have just had an update from the good ship " Magic" which has safely arrived in Broome and as I write is setting sail for Darwin. It is expected that this leg will take about six weeks as they meander up the Kimberley coast. The trip from Exmouth to Broome sounds as though it was a bit torrid at times as they beat into strong easterlies which made it pretty uncomfortable at times. They also had problems finding suitable safe anchorages, a mixture of wind and tide making life difficult.
Still all is well, the boat handling OK and the crew not yet having a mutiny.

Comment:I just read the item about adjusting tappets by David Ekersley on your otherwise excellent website. Some of you guys just can't resist having a pop at us can you? We're not all whinging poms, ask Mike and Loretta. If you want to see a real whinger look no further than your own prime minister. When he handed out the medals after the rugby world cup he had a face like a smacked bottom.

Incidentally, David your method would be ok if the rocker on the xpag was pivoted in the centre, but then that might be too subtle for you.

Kind regards
